Shakib Al Hasan has been banned for 6 months due to several reasons including behavioral problems. However, he appealed to the Cricket Board on July 20 to reduce the ban. Shakib apologizes for his past mistakes. And there are reports that the cricket board is reducing his punishment slightly due to the appeal.
Board president Nazmul Hasan Papon also told reporters that he will reconsider Shakib's application. Before Eid, the BCB president told a hotel in the capital that a board meeting will be called as soon as possible after Eid and a decision will be taken regarding Shakib.
However, the date of the board meeting is yet to be fixed. After Eid, BCB activities will start today Saturday. And so it is heard that the board president can call a meeting any day of the next week. Media Committee Chairman Jalal Yunus confirmed this to the media. He said, 'The date of the board meeting has not been finalized yet. But the meeting will be about an important issue. Hopefully, this meeting will be held in the first week of August itself.
On the other hand, according to insider reports, the head coach Chandika Hathurusingha also requested to reduce the punishment, 2 days after Shakib's appeal, i.e. on July 22. Although Shakib is not on the West Indies tour, the coach wants to see Shakib in the team for the home series against Zimbabwe in October.
Shakib's 6-month sentence is likely to be reduced to 3 months, a source said. However, it is not yet known whether Zimbabwe will be allowed to play the series or only in the domestic league.
Shakib is not hindered from practicing even if there is a delay in the decision on the punishment. The world's best all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan can enter the practice field from Saturday.
