ভারতে ট্রেনের আঘাতে মারা গেছে পাঁচ হাতি
ভারতের পূর্বাঞ্চলীয় উড়িষ্যা রাজ্যে যাত্রীবাহী ট্রেনের আঘাতে পাঁচ হাতি মারা গেছে। হাতিগুলো রাম্ভা বনাঞ্চলীয় এলাকায় রেলপথ পার হতে গেলে এ ঘটনা ঘটে। উড়িষ্যা রাজ্যের স্থানীয় রেলওয়ে কর্মকর্তা আরএন মহাপাত্র এ কথা জানান। উল্লেখ্য, ভারতে প্রায় ২৬,০০০ হাতি রয়েছে যা দেশটির ঐতিহ্যগত প্রাণী হিসেবে স্বীকৃত।
প্রসঙ্গত, গত পাঁচ বছরে উড়িষ্যা রাজ্যে বিভিন্ন দুর্ঘটনায় প্রায় ৩০০ হাতি মারা গেছে। তবে অভিযোগ আছে, এর বেশির ভাগই স্থানীয় কৃষকদের বিষপ্রয়োগের ফলে মৃত্যুবরণ করেছে। এদিকে এ ঘটনার পরপরই একটি তদন্ত কমিটি গঠন করেছে রাজ্য সরকার।

The words kadi and kapardak are still in use in Bengali language, but not exactly in the sense of money, but in the sense of financial situation. Silver coinage was prevalent in that era, but its use was limited to cities and large commercial centers. In rural areas, the cord was the main means of buying and selling. In the accounts written by medieval historians Masudi and Abul Fazal, the market price was determined on the basis of the yard. In fact, kadi was used as currency in the first phase of transition from crop tax to coinage in land revenue collection. Evidence of this can be found from the revenue settlement of the Mughal period. There is evidence of the use of kadi in the Sultanate period as well. During the Mughal period, raiyats could pay government revenue in any form of grain or paddy. In the Rangpur and Sylhet districts of the border areas of Bengal, the Karis were dominant even till the end of the 19th century.
The most novel aspect of the Kadhi Mudra is its calculation method. This practice remained unchanged until the end of the period of use. The counting rules of kadi were: 4 kadi = 1 ganda; 5 ganda = 1 pill; 4 pills = 1 bet; 16 bet = 1 kahn; and Das Kahn = 1 Taka (a silver coin weighing about 340 rati).
Another calculation method of kadi is: 4 kadi = 1 ganda; 20 ganda = 1 bet; 4 bets = 1 anna; 4 annas = 1 kahn; 4 kahn = 1 taka (28,880 kadis), In the post-discovery period European countries imported a lot of kadis. However, it was not used as currency within the country. Slaves were bought from African markets with these links. At that time, the only medium of exchange in Africa was the kadi.

ছাত্রদের স্মার্টফোন ব্যবহার নিষিদ্ধ করেছে উপমহাদেশের অন্যতম সেরা দ্বীনি প্রতিষ্ঠান ভারতের দারুল উলুম দেওবন্দ। প্রতিষ্ঠানটির ভাইস চ্যান্সেলর মাওলানা আবদুল খলিল ছাত্রদের মধ্যে মাল্টিমিডিয়া ফোনের অপব্যবহার ও অনৈতিক কর্মকাণ্ড সংঘটিত হচ্ছে এমন অভিযোগের পর শিক্ষা সংক্রান্ত কমিটি এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়। তবে ক্যামেরা-ভিডিও ফিচারবিহীন সাধারণ মোবাইল নিষিদ্ধ নয় বলে জানিয়েছেন তিনি। টাইমস অব ইন্ডিয়ার খবরে বলা হয়, নিষিদ্ধ ঘোষণা করার পর কর্তৃপক্ষ ১৪ জন ছাত্রের কাছ থেকে স্মার্টফোন জব্দ করে ভেঙে ফেলে। ওসব ছাত্রকে পুনরায় এমন মোবাইল ব্যবহার না করতে সতর্ক করে দিয়েছে কর্তৃপক্ষ। অন্যথায় কঠিন ব্যবস্থা নেয়া হবে বলে তাদের জানিয়ে দেয়া হয়। এদিকে ঐতিহ্যবাহী ধর্মীয় শিক্ষাপ্রতিষ্ঠানটির পরিচালনা পর্ষদের পক্ষ থেকে বলা হয়েছে, কর্তৃপক্ষ তথ্য-প্রযুক্তি ব্যবহারকে নিরুৎসাহিত করে না। কিন্তু ছাত্রদের মধ্যে তথ্য-প্রযুক্তির অপব্যবহার রোধে কর্তৃপক্ষের কিছু করার না থাকায় বাধ্য হয়ে এ সিদ্ধান্ত নেয়া হয়েছে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের তিন রাজ্যে সমকামী বিয়ের হিড়িক
নতুন বছরকে বরণ করতে মঙ্গলবার রাতভর সারা বিশ্বের বিভিন্ন প্রান্তে ছিল নানা মাত্রিক আয়োজন। এ রাতে খুব কম মানুষই ঘুমিয়ে কাটিয়েছেন। তারা নতুন বছরে জীবনকে উৎফুলস্ন আর আনন্দের মাঝে কাটানোর যেন দীক্ষা নিয়েছে। তবে ইংরেজি নতুন বছরকে বরণ করতে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের মেরিল্যান্ডে বসেছিল অন্যরকম এক আনন্দ আয়োজন। এদিন থেকেই সেখানে সমকামীতে অর্থাৎ পুরুষের সঙ্গে পুরুষের আবার নারীর সঙ্গে নারীর বিয়ে বৈধতা পেয়েছে। গত ৬ই নভেম্বর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের প্রেসিডেন্ট নির্বাচনের সময় এর স্বপক্ষে ভোট দিয়ে এ ধারাকে বৈধতা দিয়েছে জনগণ। তাই ম্যাসন-ডিক্সন লাইনে প্রথম বিয়ের পিড়িতে বসলেন দুই পুরুষ জেমস স্কেল (৬৮) ও তার বন্ধু উইলিয়াম তাসকার (৬০), সিটি হলে এ বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত ছিলেন বাল্টিমোরের মেয়র স্টিফানি 
রাউলিং-ব্লেক। জেমস স্কেল ও উইলিয়াম তাস্কারের মধ্যে ৩৫ বছর ধরে সমকামিতা চলছে। তবে এবারই তারা বৈধতা পেলেন। তাই বিয়ের ঠিক পূর্ব মুহূর্তে জেমস স্কেলস বলেন, বিশ্বাস করতে কষ্ট হচ্ছে যে আমাদের বৈধতা দেয়া হয়েছে। আমরা প্রকাশ্যে বিয়ে করতে পারছি। এ সিটি হলেই ওই রাতে বিয়ে করেন আরও ৬ জোড়া পুরুষ। ওই রাজ্যের এইতো শুধু একটি অংশের খবর। এর বাইরে রাজ্যজুড়ে কতগুলো সমকামীর বিয়ে হয়েছে তার সঠিক হিসাব কেউ বলতে পারেন না আপাতত। তবে এ বিয়ে বৈধতা পাওয়ায় সামাজিক রীতিতে পরিণত হয়েছে সমকামীতে বিয়ে। তাই প্রকাশ্যে সাধারণ বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানের মতো আয়োজন করা হয় এ বিয়ে। বাল্টিমোর থেকে এ খবর দিয়েছে বার্তা সংস্থা এপি। এতে আরও বলা হয়, জেমস স্কেল ও উইলিয়াম তাসকারের বিয়ের অনুষ্ঠানে মেয়র রাউলিং ব্লেক বলেছেন, সত্যিকার বিয়ে হলো বিশ্বের সবচেয়ে পবিত্র সম্পর্ক। এ রাতে বিয়ে বন্ধনে আবদ্ধ হয়েছেন ব্রিজিত রোনেত। তিনি বয়ে করেছেন লিসা ওয়ালথার নামে আরেক নারীকে। তিনি বিয়ের পর বলেছেন, আমি এতদিন স্বপ্ন দেখতাম কেন্দ্রীয়ভাবে সমকামী বিয়েকে স্বীকৃতি দেয়া হয়েছে। নভেম্বরের নির্বাচনে মেরিল্যান্ড, মেইনে ও ওয়াশিংটনে সমকামীতে বিয়েকে বৈধতা দিয়েছেন ভোটাররা। এর ফলে মঙ্গলবার মধ্যরাতের পর পরই ওই তিন রাজ্যের বিভিন্ন এলাকায় শুরু হয় সমলিঙ্গে বিয়ের উৎসব। ব্রিজিত রোনেত (৫১) বিয়ে করেছেন লিসা ওয়ালথার (৫১)কে। তাদের বিয়েও সম্পন্ন হয়েছে সিটি হলে। এরপর ব্রিজিত রোনেত বলেছেন, ৬ই ডিসেম্বর থেকে সমকামী দম্পতিরা বিয়ে করার লাইসেন্স পাচ্ছেন। তবে তা কার্যকর হয়নি নতুন বছর না আসা পর্যন্ত। ২০১১ সালে এ রাজ্যে সমকামী বিয়ের প্রস্তাব রাজ্যের সিনেটে পাস হয়। কিন্তু হাউজ অব ডেলিগেশনে তা স্থগিত ছিল। বাল্টিমোরের আর্চবিশপ এডউইন ও’ব্রাইন একটি চিঠিতে লিখেছিলেন গভর্নরের বিশ্বাসের বিপরীত ধারণা হলো সমলিঙ্গে বিয়ে। তারপর থেকেই তা আটকে যায়।
