At least 102 people were killed and 120 injured in a suicide car bomb attack at a snooker club in the Balochistan capital of Quetta on Thursday, news agency AFP reported. The area is predominantly Shia. Almost all of the people in the snooker club were Shia Muslims. It was believed that a Sunni extremist organization could be behind the attack. Later it was learned that an organization named Lashkar-e-Jhangvi carried out the attack.

The organization claimed responsibility for the attack by calling the office of a local newspaper. The population of Pakistan is about 18 crores. 20 percent of the total population is Shia. Such attacks on them are not new in Pakistan. But rarely have so many lives been lost in one attack. 10th January was one of the worst days in recent times for Pakistan. Apart from the two suicide attacks in Quetta's snooker club, there were other attacks. In Keita, 11 people were killed when a bomb planted under a military vehicle exploded. Besides, 22 people were reportedly killed in a bomb attack on a gathering of Muslims in Swat Valley. In total, at least 140 people have died in Pakistan in a single day.

Note that 98 people died in front of a police training center in a terrible bomb attack on May 13, 2011. On January 10, however, the people of Pakistan had to see a procession of dead bodies even bigger than that.
