The Dhaka Times Desk The flood victims are living in a very miserable condition. Village after village is being washed away by the strong current of Padma-Yamuna. Millions of helpless people. No food, water, no place to stand, no relief material. The flood victims are living a helpless inhumane life.

The flood situation across the country has not improved. One and a half lakh people in Bogra's three upazilas are still under waterlogging. Water entered the new areas of these three upazilas yesterday. On the other hand, the flood situation in Doha upazila has further deteriorated. Ranipur Bridge was broken by the strong current of Padma. Yesterday also around 100 families lost their lives due to the overflow of Padma.

However, the flood situation in Sirajganj is stable. Yesterday morning at Sirajganj point the water of Yamuna river flowed 30 cm above the danger level. On the other hand, the Padma river has taken a serious form at Harirampur point in Manikganj. As the water rises and falls, many people on the banks of the Padma are becoming homeless. It is known that 13 unions of Harirampur upazila have been affected by floods. Moreover, river erosion due to flood water has also taken a serious form. In various places, village after village has been destroyed.

Flood water is rising in some places all over the country. Again, even if the flood water is normal in some places, there is no end to the misery of Banavasi people. In some places, the local district administration has distributed relief materials but it is totally inadequate. Moreover, there are complaints that no relief materials have been delivered in many places. It is our moral responsibility to stand by the flood disaster. That as possible should stand next to the flood. These national disasters must be dealt with collectively.

Like other times, there is not much initiative to help the flood victims. In addition to voluntary organizations, individual initiatives should come forward. Everyone should stand by the helpless people. As a Bengali nation, this is our expectation to all.
