Begum Roshan Ershad, the head of the party's parliamentary party and the leader of the opposition, also agreed with his statement. However, no final decision was taken in yesterday's meeting. In the next meeting of the parliamentary party, it was said that everyone agreed that the ministers of the party will give their decision in this regard.
The third session of the 10th parliament is going to start today on Monday. The meeting of Japa Parliamentary Party was held in view of this session. Ershad also attended the meeting chaired by Roshan Ershad. Several Japa MPs present at the meeting told the media that Ershad himself raised the issue of resignation of party leaders from the cabinet. At that time, Ershad said, 'The people of the country do not believe that we are the opposition party. We want to be a real opposition party. But it is not possible to play the role of real opposition in the cabinet. I am going to different places, everywhere speaking against the government, criticizing the government. But people laugh at us, they tell me that they themselves are opposing the government. Newspapers are printing cartoons about me. It's a shame for me. That is why I will tell you (National Party ministers) to come out of the government immediately.'
Roshan Ershad, giving full support to Ershad's statement, said, 'What the chairman of the party said is the truth. In fact, the role of the opposition party can never be properly played by the government. There is also confusion among people on this issue. Again many of our MPs have complained to me that they are not getting any support from the party ministers. If it does not benefit the party, then what is the use of the cabinet? That's why I also think that it will be good for the party if it comes out of the government. We want to play the role of a real opposition party.'
Citing a source, the media said, after Ershad and Roshan's statement, Jaffa MP and State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperative Mashiur Rahman Ranga said, 'We cannot do whatever we want because we have become ministers. We have many limitations. Moreover, it is not Japa's government, the government is led by Awami League. After this, Ranga said to Ershad, 'Sir, you are also the special envoy of the Prime Minister, full minister. So everything should be taken carefully when making a decision.'
While discussing the resignation from the cabinet, Japa's other presidium member and Minister of Water Resources Barrister Anisul Islam Mahmud said, 'When we actually decide to resign, it is better to discuss it. If you talk about it in advance, it will be written in various ways in the newspapers, it will not be right.'
