Curator of the zoo Dr. ABM Shahidullah said that the animals will be bought from far South Africa, India, Ivory Coast, Mexico and Brazil. Tenders have already been invited for this. The tender will be opened on February 5. These animals and birds will arrive in May.
These animals and birds will be brought in a special plane. They will be very young. In this, the visitors will get a chance to see the animals and birds for a longer time. Along with this, the number of new animals and birds will also increase due to the opportunity of breeding. This will create a revenue generating area. Different countries will show interest in buying these animals and birds from Bangladesh. The authorities said that a budget of two crore rupees has been fixed for the purchase of new animals and birds. Among them are two striped white tigers, two black tigers, two brown bears, two red kangaroos, with crowns on their heads. There are two black monkeys and two two-humped camels. Currently these animals are not in Dhaka Zoo.
The zoo has one male sambar deer but two more will be purchased. One of them is male and one is female. A male chimpanzee has been living alone in a zoo for several years. The animal has passed its normal lifespan. Two chimpanzees will be purchased to alleviate the animal's loneliness.
Seven birds will be bought. Among them are three Gray Pelicans. This bird is not in the zoo. While there are two male and one female emu birds, three more will be purchased. Keshwari birds will be bought three. There is a male Keshwari in the zoo. Riya birds will be bought two. There are no rhea birds in the zoo.
It should be noted that earlier in April 2012, several rare species of animals and birds including white lions, rhinos and spotted hyenas came as guests to the zoo.
