A new study has revealed this alarming information. The study identified diabetes as a major health problem in China. It is estimated that 3.5 billion pounds will be spent on this sector every year until 2030. China has the highest number of diabetics than any other country in the world. News agency ANI reported this.
The prevalence of diabetes among China's adult population has increased dramatically. In 1980, only 1 percent of people in China had diabetes. There it increased to 12 percent in 2010. Currently, 11.39 million people in China are suffering from diabetes. About half of Chinese adults have pre-diabetes. These people are at risk of getting diabetes and other serious diseases at any time.
Most alarmingly, researchers say that 70 percent of adults with diabetes are not getting the necessary health checks or treatment to detect diabetes. Only 1/4 percent of patients with diabetes received treatment. Of these, only 40 percent have diabetes under control, researchers said. Researchers believe that the only defenses at the moment are dietary changes and public awareness.
