The incident took place on the afternoon of February 28 in Amirabad, Lohagara, South Chittagong. So the question to humanity is what kind of brutality? Will Islam ever recognize this brutality?
Earlier, a constable of this party was hacked to death by Jamaat-Shibir. To escape from the attackers, the remaining 19 policemen took shelter in a community center in a three-storied building in Amirabad, Lohagara. Jamaat-Shibir locked the collapsible gate of the community center and poured petrol on it. The fire was set to burn 19 policemen trapped in the building, police officials said.
Eyewitnesses said that after the death sentence of Delaware Hossain Sayeedi was announced on Thursday afternoon, the local Jamaat-Shibir became desperate. From three o'clock that day, hundreds of leaders and activists gathered at Lohagara Sadar and started protesting against the verdict.
Eyewitnesses also said that around 3:30 pm on Thursday, a militant procession of Jamaat-Shibir was crossing a three-storey community center named 'Zamir Complex' in Amirabad, Lohagara Sadar. At that time 20 policemen including four sub-inspectors of police (SI) entered the land complex. Protesters locked the iron collapsible gates of the community center. A constable named Tarekul Islam was dragged away by the protestors. The remaining 19 policemen were stationed on the second floor.
Chittagong Additional Superintendent of Police (South) Md. Describing the incident, Iltut Mish said, 'The protesters locked the gate of the land complex and poured petrol and set it on fire. When the fire spread to the building, the 19 policemen who were blocked asked for our help through a radio message. I went to the scene with 18 other policemen to shoot Chinese rifles. I was able to rescue 19 policemen who were blocked by removing the protestors.
Iltut Mish also said, 'The attackers are angry after capturing our constable Tarekul Islam from the land complex. The protestors put an iron rod in his head to ensure his death.
Chittagong District Police Superintendent Md. Hafiz Akhtar said, "The attackers wanted to burn our 19 policemen. It was not possible to save them unless another team of policemen came forward to fire. Another of our constables of this party was brutally hacked to death. According to the police, when the Jamaat-Shibir workers ambushed the Baman Danga police outpost, they informed the concerned police station wirelessly. At this time they tried to defend themselves by shooting blanks. But once the firing was over, the Jamaat-Shibir activists attacked them and hacked them to death.
