Two United Nations human rights experts have appealed to the government to suspend the death sentence of Jamaat leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, who was sentenced to death in the final judgment of the Appellate Division for crimes against humanity in 1971. In a statement from Geneva, Tristof Haynes, the UN Special Rapporteur on the killings, and Gabriela Naul, the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers, made the call. They expressed concern about the news that 'Kamaruzzaman will be hanged as soon as possible'.
It should be noted that on May 9, 2013, the International Criminal Tribunal-2 sentenced Mohammad Kamaruzzaman to death for crimes against humanity. He appealed against this verdict. The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court upheld the death sentence of Kamaruzzaman in the final verdict on November 3 this year. After that, the government made all preparations for execution.
