The incident took place on a bus in the Indian state of Haryana on Friday. According to the statement of two sisters Arti and Pooja, while they were going to the bus, the three youths tried to assault them physically. At one point they started sexually harassing the two sisters with their hands. So in self-defence, the two brothers unbuckled their waist belts and started beating them.
Two sisters, Arti and Pooja, told BBC Hindi about the incident in Rohtak district, "The three youths threatened and assaulted us. They did not stop even after threats of beatings if they touched the body. There were obscene gestures and touching.
22-year-old Arti and 19-year-old Pooja said that even though there were many other people in the bus during the incident, no one came forward to help us. So in self defense, I took off my waist belt and started beating them. If someone from the bus had come forward, they could not have done that.
The scene recorded on the mobile phone of a passenger quickly spread to people of all walks of life. After the incident, many people praised their courage on social media. After this incident, many people said that women should be protested in this way, otherwise they will not be saved from the hands of miscreants.
Meanwhile, according to NDTV news, the three young men were going to take an army exam. But on Monday, their form was canceled due to actions taken by the Indian Army. The police arrested the three youths after the incident on Friday.
It may be noted that after the gang-rape and murder of a moving bus in Delhi in 2012, any violence against women came into the 'spotlight'. Protests and condemnation began around the world.
