Indonesia executes 6 persons including 5 foreigners by firing squad for drug trafficking. The 5 foreigners sentenced to death were citizens of the Netherlands, Brazil, Nigeria, Malawi and Vietnam. And due to the execution of this death sentence, Indonesia's diplomatic deadlock has been created with the countries.
The Netherlands and Brazil strongly condemned the executions. The country has also summoned the Indonesian ambassadors stationed in the two home countries. CNN reported this.
The press reported that Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff expressed strong anger in a statement protesting the execution of Brazilian citizen Marco Archer Cardoso Moreira. He said, this incident has seriously hurt the relationship between the two countries. He also expressed his condolences to Moreira's family. The Brazilian president expressed frustration that the Indonesian government had shown no mercy to Moreira despite his personal appeal to new Indonesian President Joko Widodo.
Note that in 2003, Moreira was arrested from Jakarta airport with 13 kg of cocaine. On the other hand, another Brazilian named Rodrigo Galarte has been sentenced to death in Indonesia.
