A passenger plane of Taiwan's TransAsia domestic route crashed into a river in the capital Taipei on Wednesday with more than half a hundred passengers on board. So far 9 deaths have been reported. 16 people were rescued with injuries. A massive operation is underway to rescue the other passengers of the plane.
The ATR-72 flight crashed into a river shortly after taking off from Taipei's Songhan Airport to Kinman Airport on the outskirts of Taiwan, local media reported. Many passengers are still trapped in the plane.
In pictures released by Taiwan's central news agency CNA, wreckage of the crashed plane can be seen floating in the Keelang River in Taipei. The cause of the accident was not immediately known. However, citing an official of the country, CNA said that the plane crashed into the river after hitting a high bridge. However, it is possible to rescue the injured passengers due to falling into the river.
It should be noted that the tourist board in Taiwan said that there were a total of 58 passengers including 31 Chinese tourists on the plane.
