That baby elephant has never lived without its mother. He stayed with his mother 24 hours a day. Eating with mother, sleeping next to mother - always stayed by mother's side. He used to walk for miles in the forest with his mother. His mother used to pluck the banana-root from the tree and eat it. Why did that mother's body fall to the ground face down like this? Faced with such a question, the baby elephant started pushing the mother with its trunk. The 7-year-old cub is pleading again and again in a shrill voice - get up, mother, he is hungry. Everyone in the party went away. won't you go mom? But the mother is frozen - there is no response. Death overcame the cub's mother. But that stupid animal does not know or understand anything.

এই ঘটনাটি ভারতের ঝাড়খণ্ড সীমানায় বেলপাহাড়ির ভুলাভেদা রেঞ্জের জবলাদহের জঙ্গলে ঘটেছে। গত বৃহস্পতিবার সকালে দেখা যায় এই করুণ দৃশ্য। গভীর জঙ্গলে পড়ে রয়েছে মা-হাতির মৃতদেহ। আর শোকে কাতর ছোট্ট শাবকটি মায়ের দেহ আগলে দাঁড়িয়ে রয়েছে। ক্রমাগতভাবে শুঁড় বুলিয়ে চলেছে মায়ের শরীরে। গ্রামবাসীরা জঙ্গলে কাঠ সংগ্রহ করতে গিয়ে এই দৃশ্য দেখে খবর দেন বন কর্মকর্তাদের। তারপর পশুচিকিত্‍সকসহ বনকর্মীরা ঘটনাস্থলে পৌঁছান।
