Joypurhat historic Temple

A very ancient temple is Gopinathpur temple or Gopinath Tagore temple in Jaipurhat district. It is a temple about 500 years old. The temple is 7 km from Akkelpur upazila headquarters of Joypurhat district. Formerly located at Gopinathpur. It is known that in the fifteenth century, Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah of Bengal gave all the property of Purna Gopinathpur and Gopalpur Mauzas as a deity in the name of this temple. There is a legend about this temple that 500 years ago, Shantipur in Nadia district of India was a very famous place for education. Prabhupada Advaita Goswami always meditated on God in Shantipur. At that time, Nanda Kumar, a youth from 24 Parganas, and another youth from Nadia district, Yajneshwar Ray, came to Prabhupada Advaita Goswami and wanted to take initiation. Advaita Goswami then sent them to Sita Devi after listening to all their words. Sita Devi learned through meditation that these young men had two lovers named Jaya and Vijaya in East Jammu. Then Sita Devi asked the young men to shave their heads and come. After completing the work as instructed by Sita Devi, he initiated them. They started serving Krishna by taking Krishnamametra initiation. Sita Devi then named Nandakumar as Nandini and Yajneshwar as Jangali. Nandini Priya Barendra area is 1 km from Gopinathpur village of Akkelpur upazila of Jaipurhat district. In the north, he built a temple on the river bank in a deep forest.

It is known that between 1520-1530 AD, Sultan Alauddin Hussain Shah of Bengal was happy to hear about Nandini Priya's Puja Parban and guest service and wrote to Tamraphal and donated all the properties of Purnagopinathpur and Gopalpur Mauza as devotar. Then Purna Gopinathpur temple was built. The structure of this temple was built with the construction technique of Pala period. Then in 1304 Bengal this temple was destroyed by an earthquake. The present main temple was rebuilt between 1928-1936 AD. But still some samples of old craftsmanship remain in the main building. The height of the temple is 50 feet. Its construction cost was 1 lakh rupees.

It is known that every morning and evening aarti and mid-day meal of rice is given. A huge fair is held here every year on Dol Purnima. This fair lasts for 13 days. However, earlier the fair was going on for a month. It is the oldest and largest fair of Bangladesh.
