The Dhaka Times Desk The Meghalaya state police filed a charge sheet against Salah Uddin, the arrested BNP leader in India, on Wednesday.
On Wednesday, the Indian state of Meghalaya police filed a charge sheet against BNP Joint Secretary General Salah Uddin Ahmed on charges of illegal entry. The officers investigating the case filed this charge sheet in the court of Shillong Chief Judicial Magistrate KML Naqvi this afternoon. The charge sheet was filed today after 23 days of filing the case under the Foreigners Act of India.
In this context, the lawyers say, if found guilty in the trial, this leader of BNP may be jailed or he may be pushed back to his own country. But all decisions will be in the court.
It is to be noted that BNP leader Salah Uddin was found in Shillong, Meghalaya, India on May 11 after 63 days of his disappearance from Dhaka's Uttara on March 10 this year. He was admitted to Shillong Civil Hospital on May 12. Earlier on May 11, he was rescued and taken to a psychiatric hospital. Salah Uddin was arrested by the Meghalaya police under the Foreigners Act for entering India without valid documents. He was then taken to Negrims Hospital in Shillong for advanced treatment. After producing Salah Uddin in court on May 27, the judge sent him to 14-day police custody. When he fell ill there, he was again admitted to the hospital. Then, on May 29, BNP Joint Secretary General and former State Minister Salah Uddin Ahmed filed a bail application, but the court did not grant him bail due to the presence of a red notice issued by the Interpol Dhaka office.
