An amnesty has been announced for illegal expatriates staying in Bahrain. The Bahrain Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA) has announced the much awaited amnesty.

The illegal residents who have been staying there for a long time were hoping for this amnesty announcement. However, after much speculation, the much-awaited amnesty was announced by the Bahrain Labor Market Regulatory Authority (LMRA).

LMRA Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Awsama Abdullah Al Abchi recently announced this amnesty.

According to this announcement, this amnesty period will be effective from July 1 to December 31, 2015 (for 6 months). Runaway (absent from work or running away from work), overstay (overtime stay after work), runway after termination (runaway after work completion) and non-renewed overstayer (overstay without renewal after visa expiry) expatriates during this period. It has been informed that all the workers will fall under this amnesty.

Due to which these illegal workers are getting employment opportunities in any organization after becoming legal for the next 6 months from July 1. Besides, they have the opportunity to leave Bahrain and return to their homeland without any kind of 'fine' or blacklist. Those who legally leave Bahrain during this period will be able to re-enter Bahrain without hindrance. For more detailed information in this regard, LMRA is asked to contact call center-17506055.

According to media reports, there is a festive atmosphere among the illegal Bangladeshi workers staying in Bahrain after the announcement of amnesty.

It is to be noted that Major General KM Mominur Rahman, the ambassador of Bangladesh posted in Bahrain, was trying for amnesty right after taking charge.
