Sports Reporter Dhaka Gladiators won the title in the first season of BPL. On February 29, in the Ek Peshe final, they defeated Barisal Burners by eight wickets to become champions. Batting first, Barisal scored only 140 runs for seven wickets in the final held at Mirpur Sherebangla National Stadium. In response, Dhaka reached the target of victory by scoring 144 runs for two wickets in 15.4 overs. The winning run came from Nazmul Islam Apoor off the bat of Anamul Haque Vijay.
The final was not as crowded as expected. The stadium was full to the brim. The visitors expected a competitive match. But it didn't happen. This is because Barisal could not score big by batting first. T20 cricket is a game of runs. Most of the matches in BPL have been big scoring. Even the two semi-finals were full of big scoring and excitement. But the finale is messy and one-sided. There are not many records of winning by such few runs in BPL. 140 runs and anything else cannot be expected to win. Actually the day was Dhaka. In bat and ball, they showed that the cricketers of Barisal could not build a wall of competition. The character of the wicket was also different. Runs were scored in both the semi-final matches. Barisal's batsmen struggled to score runs in the final. But the batsmen of Dhaka have scored runs. Due to such two-sided behavior of the wicket, the final became one-sided. The BPL saw a low-scoring final after two big-scoring semi-finals. The two opening bowlers captain Mashrafe and Azhar Mahmood hit hard and the spinners came into the attack. Barisal's batsmen could not take advantage of three spinners Shahid Afridi, Saeed Ajmal and Ilyas Sani. Afridi was successful with the ball in hand. Returned danger man Ahmed Shehzad. He took two wickets with 24 runs in four overs. Afridi was the most successful. He took three wickets for 23 runs in four overs. Saeed Ajmal also took one wicket for 23 runs in four overs. Note that Bangladesh Premier League BPL is being held for the first time. Dhaka and Chittagong were the venues of BPL. Although it was the first time, this event was quite packed. It was grandly inaugurated in Dhaka on February 9. The official opening took place with a wonderful program by renowned artists of India-Bangladesh. The first match is on February 10. A total of 33 matches were played at Sher-e Bangla National Stadium and Zahoor Ahmed Stadium in Chittagong.
