BREAKING: Public transport fare hike: effective from October 1

The Dhaka Times Desk Public transport fares have increased due to the rise in gas prices. The increased fare will be effective from October 1. The government has revised the fares of CNG-powered buses, minibuses and autorickshaws in Dhaka and Chittagong cities.

Rentals extended public transport

According to the government decision, the bus fare of urban transport has been increased from 1 taka 60 paisa per kilometer to 1 taka 70 paisa per kilometer i.e. 10 paisa per kilometer has been increased. Minibus fare has been increased from 1 taka 50 paisa to 1 taka 60 paisa i.e. 10 paisa has been increased.

However, the minimum bus fare has been kept at 7 taka and the minibus fare has been kept at 5 taka. This new fare will be effective from October 1 after Eid.

Despite complaints of not running metered auto-rickshaws, the government has also fixed new fare rates for CNG-powered auto-rickshaws in two major cities.
If you ride an autorickshaw, the fare for the first 2 kilometers is fixed at Tk 40. Earlier the rent was 25 taka. This will be the minimum fare. After that, the fare per kilometer has been increased from 7 taka 64 paisa to 12 taka. In case of traffic jam or any other reason, you have to pay 2 rupees for every minute break. Earlier it was 1 taka 4 paise.

The daily deposit amount for autorickshaw drivers has also been increased. Until now it was 600 rupees. From now on the auto owner will have to pay them 900 rupees per day.

Note that fares have not been rescheduled for long-distance buses. Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader told reporters after the meeting that Antjela buses will run at the same fare as before.
