The Dhaka Times Desk Now Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman has responded to the fatwa. A Mumbai-based organization of Sunni Muslims called Raja Academy issued a fatwa against music director AR Rahman and filmmaker Majid Majidi.
Last week, Raja Academy, a Mumbai-based organization of Sunni Muslims, issued a fatwa against music director AR Rahman and filmmaker Majid Majidi. The fatwa said that Rahman and Majidi had become 'apostates' due to their involvement in the production of the movie 'Muhammad (PBUH): Messenger of God'. Their marriage has also become 'invalid'.
AR Rahman opened up about the matter after so long. In a post on Facebook, he said, 'I did not direct or produce the film, only scored the music. The spiritual experience I had while working on that film is very personal and I don't want to share it.'
AR Rahman also said, 'He decided to do the music of that movie out of his own free will. He never intended to hurt anyone.'
Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman said, 'It is related to his faith. If he had not done music in this movie, he would have faced questions on the day of Hashar.' In this context, he wrote, "If Allah asks him on the Day of Judgment, 'I have given you faith, talent, money, fame and health, why did you not do music in the movie about my guava Rasool (PBUH)?"
AR Rahman said, 'The music of this movie is made on the idea of uniting humanity. But unfortunately the wrong message is being spread.'
It should be noted that the first part of the ambitious trilogy based on the biography of Muhammad (pbuh) is 'Muhammad (pbuh): Messenger of God'. Made in Iran, its music is composed by AR Rahman. And that is the objection of some sections of Muslims. The Sunni Muslim organization Raja Academy has also complained to the Home Minister and Chief Minister of Maharashtra, India to take action against Rahman and Majidi.
