The Dhaka Times Desk The World Bank has redefined poverty. It says that people who earn less than 1.90 dollars per day, which is 148 rupees in Bangladeshi taka, will be considered poor!
It is known that this is the first time after 1990 that the definition of poverty has been redefined. Before 1990, the organization defined the poor as those earning less than 1.25 dollars per day, which is 97.27 rupees in Bangladeshi taka.
According to experts, the number of poor people worldwide will increase significantly due to redefining the definition of poverty. But although the exact number cannot be determined at the moment, the World Bank believes that 14.8 million people will join the ranks of the poor again.
Analysts believe that the number of poor will increase the most in the East Asian region. Of the 29.3 million people in this area, 15.7 million are already living below the poverty line. In Latin America, as many as 8 million people are moving below the poverty line again. On the other hand, the number of poor in South Asia will increase by at least 7 million. But this definition of poverty may shake the world's conscientious people to some extent. In that case, it is not unreasonable to expect some negative effects.
