The Dhaka Times Desk The court awarded the death sentence to daughter Aishi for the murder of sensational police couple Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Sapna Rahman.
Judge Saeed Ahmed of Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 of Dhaka announced this verdict on Thursday. The three accused in the case are - Oishi Rahman, Asaduzzaman Johnny and Mizanur Rahman Roni.
Oishi Rahman and his friend Asaduzzaman Jani were brought to the court from the jail as the date of the verdict was already fixed. Out of 49 witnesses in this case, 39 testified at various times in the court.
On August 16, 2013, the police recovered the mutilated bodies of Mahfuzur Rahman and his wife Sapna Rahman, inspector of the special branch of the police (political branch), from their home in Chamelibagh, Malibagh of the capital. After her parents were killed, their daughter Aishe ran away. In this incident on August 17, 2013, Mahfuzur Rahman's younger brother Md. Moshiur Rahman Rubel filed a murder case at Paltan police station. On August 17 of the same year, Oishi surrendered to Ramna Police Station and confessed to the murder on August 24.
On March 9, 2014, Dhaka Metropolitan Detective (DB) Police Inspector Abul Khair filed a complaint in court against three people, making Oishi the main accused. Then on November 30, 2014, Judge ABM Sajedur Rahman of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 filed charges against the accused.
