The Dhaka Times Desk A lawyer has filed a writ in the High Court seeking action against Hazrat Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi, Amir of Hefazat Islam, in connection with the burning of Quran Sharif in front of Baitul Mukarram during the May 5 siege.
After filing a writ in the relevant branch of the High Court on May 6 yesterday, the petitioner's lawyer M Aminur Rashid Raju took it to the bench of Justice Naima Haider and Justice Zafar Ahmed for hearing.
It is learned that the writ was filed seeking to know why legal action should not be taken against the Amir Ahmad Shafi of the organization in connection with the burning of the Holy Quran during the Hefazat program on Sunday. The respondent Home Secretary and the Inspector General of Police were also asked to show cause. At the same time, three defendants, Home Secretary, Inspector General of Police and Ahmad Shafi, have been mentioned in the application to summon the court to explain their position in the incident.
The RG of the writ stated that the custody had created a blockade and caused immense suffering to the people of the city. At one stage of the program they set fire to the Quran. The plaintiff said that he filed this writ in the High Court as a Muslim due to mental suffering. The lawyer said that the writ is scheduled to be heard today on May 7.
