The Dhaka Times Desk Desktop PCs survive in the booming market of notebook laptops for China. For the first time, China has overtaken the United States as the world's largest market for personal computers. China shipped 69 million PCs, 3 million more than the US. At the same time it is seen that the whole world prefers notebook computers. 64 percent of sales come from notebooks and 36 percent from desktop sales.

IHS senior analyst Peter Lin said shipments of desktops and notebooks are unusual in China, where consumers from different regions prefer to buy mobile PCs. The source of this large portion of desktop shipments in China is the high demand in rural areas. It is calculated that 1.34 billion citizens of the country i.e. rural consumers are inclined to buy desktops.
A general picture of China's PC market, like other countries, is that it is slowly shrinking. According to IHS, this is happening as 3 to 4 billion users are switching to mobile internet every year. China's key investment is in digital infrastructure that will continue to drive demand for PCs in rural areas. China is expected to maintain this position in the near future.
