The Dhaka Times Desk Recently, a sudden increase in railway fares was announced. Newly enhanced rail fares are effective from today!

According to media reports, this new railway fare is effective from today (Saturday). Passenger transport fare is being increased from 7 to 9 percent depending on the route. Rail container fares are also being hiked at the same rate. Railway authorities have already started selling these increased fare tickets.
In this regard, railway sources have said that the new fare is effective from February 20. A list of new increased fares has also been drawn up at various stations for the convenience of passengers.
How fares are increasing according to the new rates:
Dhaka-Chittagong Route:
Sobhan class fare will increase from Tk 265 to Tk 285.
Sobhan chair increased from 320 to 345.
AC chairs increased from 610 to 656.
AC seats increased from 731 to 788.
AC berth increased from 1 thousand 93 to 1 thousand 189 taka.
Dhaka-Khulna Route:
Sobhan class fare will increase from 390 to 420 taka.
Ornamental chairs increased from 465 to 505.
AC chair 891 to 961.
AC seats increased from 1 thousand 70 to 1 thousand 156.
AC berth will increase from 1 thousand 599 to 1 thousand 731 taka.
Dhaka-Sylhet Route:
Sobhan class fare will be Tk 265.
Ornamental Chair 320.
AC Chair 610.
AC seat 736.
AC berth 1 thousand 99 taka.
Dhaka-Rajshahi Route:
Sobhan class fare will be Tk 285.
Ornamental Chair 340.
AC Chair 656.
AC seat 782.
AC berth 1 thousand 68 taka.
In all, the rent is increasing from 7 and a half percent to 9 percent. Fares on other routes are also being hiked at almost the same rate.
Note that after 20 years, the railway fare was increased in October 2012. After only 3 years, the rent was increased again. It is known that the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given a condition to increase the rent every year from now on to reduce the losses. Train fares are expected to increase early in the year due to loan conditions.
