So a panchayat of Aligarh village in Uttar Pradesh has banned the use of mobile phones by girls below 18 years of age. Those who disobeyed this order, their families would have to sweep the village streets as punishment. The incident of issuance of this novel order took place in Basauli village of Gonda block of Iglas taluk. The Khap Panchayat there has given this provision. It is said in the news that when the Prime Minister of India is on the one hand to get smartphones in the hands of everyone in the country as part of the Digital India initiative, such a decision of the Gram Panchayat has really surprised everyone.
This panchayat, which is located about 80 km from Agra, has ruled that mobile phones should not be given to unmarried girls, as well as any kind of social networking!
The order of the panchayat said, otherwise, the girl's parents will have to clean the village road for 5 days or may have to pay a fine of 1000 rupees!
Panchayat Coordinator Ramveer Singh said in an interview to Times of India, 'Younger girls are getting involved with boys to have a phone in hand. That is why the level of crime is increasing. The village girls will be kept under strict surveillance so that no untoward incident happens to any of the village girls in the future.'
