Although there is a huge difference in the quality of life and civic facilities between the two cities, Toronto, the capital of Canada, and Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, the cost of living in the capital Dhaka is higher than that of Toronto, the capital of Canada. The cost of living in Montreal, the country's largest city, is the same as Dhaka!
Britain's 'The Economist' magazine ranked Dhaka and Montreal jointly at number 71 among the world's cities based on cost of living in 2015.
According to Economist research, the cost of living in cities like Mexico City or Istanbul is much lower than Dhaka! Even Canada's largest city and the country's capital, Toronto, has a lower cost of living than Dhaka. Toronto is far behind Dhaka in this list (88).
The Economist's study of 133 cities around the world looked at the position of local currencies against the dollar, the cost of living, business travelers and experts. Singapore is recognized as the most expensive city in the list.
On the other hand, four of the 10 least expensive cities are in India. The cities are Bangalore, Mumbai, Chennai and Delhi. Pakistan's Karachi is said to be the seventh least expensive city in the world.
