The Dhaka Times Desk The prices of goods are on fire in the market for Pahela Boishakh. First of all, the price of hilsa fish is skyrocketing now. On the other hand, prices of beef, chicken and other products are increasing several times.
The price of hilsa fish increases when Pahela Baisakh comes, that is normal. But this time the prices of other products starting from beef in the market have increased several times more.
Small hilsa which used to be sold at 300 taka per kg so far, are now being sold at 800 or 900 taka per kg for Baisakh. And big hilsa weighing one kg were sold for 900 or 1000 taka earlier. They are now seen selling for 3 to 4 thousand rupees. Which is impossible for common people to buy and eat. Although there are buyers in the market to buy those fish. They buy very easily! But that happens to few people. It is difficult for ordinary people to go near hilsa fish.
Ahead of Boishakh, the price of beef has increased a lot. Beef of 380 taka per kg is being sold from 420 taka to 450 taka per kg from last Tuesday! Today Wednesday or tomorrow Thursday may increase more. The price of chicken has also increased from Tk 150 per kg and is being sold at Tk 170/180 per kg. The prices of these products have increased only because of Pahela Boishakh. Because panta hilsa has become a custom of Bengalis on Pahela Baisakh. Due to which a class of businessmen are making profit at this time. Moreover, the price of goods increases due to the fact that the supply is less than the demand at this time. Thus the price of every thing has increased several times. Yet the Bengalis have retained their thousand-year-old culture.
