The Dhaka Times Desk Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh has called a 24-hour strike on Sunday, May 8, to protest against the upholding of the death sentence of Jamaat Amir Matiur Rahman Nizami for crimes against humanity.

Meanwhile, a three-day program has been announced by the party to protest this verdict.
This program was announced in a statement sent to the media after Nizami's application was rejected on Thursday.
Acting Amir of Jamaat Mr. Maqbool Ahmad and Acting Secretary General Dr. A statement given by Shafiqur Rahman said, 'The allegations raised by the government against Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami are completely baseless, false, fabricated and fictitious. The proof of which is 3 distinguished heroic freedom fighters including a freedom fighter commander from his birthplace Pabna. In their spontaneous testimony to the tribunal, they clearly stated that they had nothing to do with the charges leveled against Maulana Nizami. Still, the people of the country were shocked, shocked and deeply shocked that Maulana Nizami was sentenced to death. Maulana Nizami has been deprived of justice.'
