An incident of police exchange of fire with some 'terrorists' took place in Gulshan of the capital today (Friday) night. This incident took place when a few youths ambushed a restaurant on 2nd and 79th road in Gulshan.
It has been reported that around 20 foreigners are among those held hostage at the Holy Artisan Bakery in Gulshan. It is known that 8 to 10 youths rushed into Artizan at around 9:30 pm. One of them had a sword, the rest had a firearm. On entering they fired a few shots and shouted Allahu Akbar. At that time there were about 20 foreign nationals inside.
According to the latest news, at 10:35 p.m., gunmen exploded two bombs in succession and fired several shots. At this time, the members of the law and order forces including the RAB-police surrounded all around ran to a safe distance.
At quarter past 11, the sound of gunfire was heard again. Shortly before that, after rescuing some injured policemen including Banani police officer-in-charge Salahuddin, they are said to have been taken to the hospital. The situation is still bad.
