The Dhaka Times Desk Baghair fish weighing 88 kg was caught in Padma at Daulatdia Ghat. It has created a sensation as such big fish are not usually seen.
A huge baghair fish weighing 88 kg was recently caught at the confluence of Padma and Yamuna near Daulatdia Ferry Ghat in Goaland Upazila of Rajbari. The fish was later sold for Tk 80,000. Locals say, after many days, such a big fish was caught in Padma.
Fisherman and fish buyer Md Shajahan said that on Friday morning, local fisherman Nimai Halder and his four colleagues cast a net to catch fish in the Padma with an engine-driven boat. At first he was startled by the great jolt of their web. But with courage, everyone started to pull the net together. As soon as the fish gets close to the boat, it thrashes so hard that the boat begins to sink. At that time, if they continued to shout, another trawler came to them quickly, they picked up the huge Baghair fish with the net in that boat and returned to the shore. Later the fisherman bought this huge fish from Nimai Haldar.
Later, this huge Baghair fish was harvested by the fishmongers of ferry number three. At this time, a crowd of eager people can be seen around the fish. Another local fishmonger, Nurul Islam Sheikh, bought this huge fish from fishmonger Shajahan at the price of Tk 900 per kg.
