The Dhaka Times Desk Maybe many people remember. The news of the 500 crore wedding made headlines in the media then. That marriage lasted only 10 years!
Marriage is a major issue in human life. So to make this wedding day memorable, many people make many arrangements. Especially for those who have a lot of money, marriage means the money game starts.
One such rich father promised his daughter that her marriage would be such that the world would remember it for a long time. India's steel emperor Lakshmi Mittal spent 5 billion Indian rupees to keep his promise to his daughter and to remind the world of his daughter's marriage! Which is about 516 crores in Bangladeshi Taka.
And so in 2004 his only daughter Banisha got married in Paris. Mittal turned the historic Versailles palace into a royal wedding home!
Mittal married his 23-year-old princess to banker Amit Bhatia at a cost of over INR 5 billion. Wedding dresses were made by the best designers of the world. Choreographer Farah Khan taught dance Jhatka! The concert hall sat across from the Louvre Museum. Javed Akhtar wrote a play. In which the entire Mittal family acted.
The engagement took place at the Palace of Versailles. Cancan dancing was accompanied by French opera. Guests were entertained at Le Grand Hotel. Low Bristol was transformed into a lovely garden for the henna ceremony.
Artists flew in from India to apply mehndi to Banisha. Big stars like Shahrukh Khan, Rani Mukerji, Juhi Chawla, Saif Ali Khan flew! A few lakhs of rupees are spent with them to make comedy plays!
The grand wedding ceremony was held at the historic Vy Lo Vaknte Estate. Artists from India went and made fake lotuses in the lake of the garden. Banisha-Amit got married sitting on that blooming lotus. Florists went from Holland to decorate the mandap. Crores of rupees were spent to royally host the arriving guests! The main attraction of the wedding night was Aishwarya Rai's special dance!
But the wedding menu was completely vegetarian. Chef Munna Maharaj from Kolkata took over the cooking duties. All in all, Lakshmi Mittal has not reduced the Palace of Versailles in any way from the reign of Louis XIV.
However, this world's most expensive dream wedding in 2004 did not last long. Before a decade was completed, the divorce case came up in court. Banisha-Amit finally separated in 2014! Even after all these years, the issue has become a news item in the media after being established as a joke.
The world remembers very well the words of the millionaire father to give his daughter, i.e. Banisha's marriage. But one thing the world knows and that is that no matter how much money is spent, the relationship can never last long. Similarity of mind is a big match, even if it is married in the 20th house, there is no problem!
