The Dhaka Times Desk Going from Dhaka to Chittagong in two hours by train seems like a dream, but the government is going to take initiatives to implement it.
The Ministry of Railways of the country wants to run a bullet train with a speed of 200 km per hour. Railways is also going to start preliminary work like feasibility study after the Prime Minister's directive to build new railways or buy bullet trains on this route. Besides, the government also has a plan for Tongi subway from Dhaka.
Trains from Dhaka currently go to Chittagong via Tongi via Bhairabazar and Brahmanbaria via Comilla. It has to cover more than 320 kilometers from Dhaka to Chittagong. It takes 7 to 8 hours. However, the length of the railway track will be reduced to accommodate bullet trains. This railway will pass through Fatulla in Narayanganj. This railway can be from Dhaka to Chittagong via Narayanganj-Daudkandi-Mohanpur-Mainamati-Laksam-Feni-Chinki Astana-Sitakund. This will reduce the length of railway from Dhaka to Chittagong by about 90 km.
Railway Minister Mujibul Haque told the media that the Dhaka-Chittagong rail corridor is very important in all aspects, starting from business and trade. Energy and power hub is being built around Maheshkhali. Due to this, many domestic and foreign passengers regularly go to Chittagong from Dhaka. On top of this, the pressure of passengers on this route is also increasing rapidly. That is why the Prime Minister has ordered to take up the bullet train project.
If this new train is launched, passengers will be able to go to Chittagong via Laksam in one and a half to two hours. However, the government is thinking about the financing of this project. The Railway Minister said that the source of funding will be determined after the feasibility study.
