The Dhaka Times Desk After Tulip Rezwana Siddique, Bangladeshi-origin Member of Parliament Roopa Haque has been appointed as the Shadow Minister of State for Home Affairs from the UK's opposition Labor Party. Rupa's original home is in Pabna.

He was appointed to the new post by Labor Party leader Jeremy Corbyn last Thursday. Rupa will reportedly work under the leadership of Diane Abbott, shadow minister for the Home Office.
Earlier, Tulip Rezwana Siddique, the granddaughter of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib, niece of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and daughter of Sheikh Rehana, another member of parliament of Bangladeshi origin, took over as the shadow minister of state for education. Tulip is the first Bengali woman to be elected as a councilor in Camden Council in May 2010.
Rushnara Ali is another of the three members of parliament of Bangladeshi origin in the current Parliament of the United Kingdom. Russana served as the British Government's Special Trade Envoy for Bangladesh. All three of them are Labor Party MPs.
On the other hand, Rupa Haque was elected Member of Parliament for the first time in 2015 by getting 22 thousand 200 votes from 'Ealing Central and Acton' constituency in London. Labor leader Jeremy Corbyn recently faced a new leadership battle due to a rebellion by party MPs. Back at the helm with the broad support of Trinamool, Corbyn reconstituted his shadow cabinet.
Reacting to being appointed to the shadow cabinet, Rupa Haque wrote on her Facebook page, 'I am really happy to join the Labor Party's vanguard as Shadow Minister of State for Home Affairs. We have a lot of work to do to keep the incumbent Tory government under pressure.'
It should be noted that Rupa Haque's original home is in Makchedpur, Pabna city.
