The Dhaka Times Desk Egypt's former president Mohamed Morsi has been sentenced to 20 years in prison by the country's court. This is the first final verdict against Morsi for killing protesters during protests in Egypt in 2012.

Yesterday (Saturday), a source in the country's judicial department confirmed the sentence against Morsi to Reuters.
Note that Morsi was the first democratically elected president of Egypt. But several charges were brought against him. Among these are accusations of smuggling secret information to Qatar, creating a destabilizing situation in Egypt, conspiring with the Palestinian radical organization Hamas and involvement in the escape of prisoners during the 2011 coup against Hosni Mubarak.
