Women in a village in India knit this oversized sweater for elephants. The sweater made of colored wool is also given to the giant body of the elephant! Village women have come forward to protect elephants from winter.
Staff at the SOS Elephant Conservation and Care Center in the northern Indian city of Mathura said they feared temperatures could drop to near freezing. After that, the women of the local village came forward to save the elephants from the cold.
Elephants that have previously been victims of human cruelty are housed in these conservation centres.

Karthik Satyanarayan, the founder of this conservation center said that it was very important to protect these elephants from severe winter.
There are 20 elephants in this centre. Some of them were detained illegally, some were in the hands of traffickers, some were taken around the streets for begging, and some were taken to circuses.
That is, all those 20 elephants have been subjected to extreme cruelty by humans in one way or another. Staff at the center plan to rescue 50 more elephants in 2017.
