The terrible earthquake that occurred in Nepal two years ago is suspected to reduce the height of Mount Everest, the highest peak in the Himalayas. And so the Indian survey department has taken the initiative to measure whether the height of Everest has really decreased.
According to the BBC, the Surveyor General of India said that some scientists believe that the height of Everest has decreased in that earthquake.
A survey of India 62 years ago stated that the height of Everest was 29,28 feet or 8,848 meters. This is considered to be the highest recognized height of Everest.
A Chinese government report says that the massive 7.8-magnitude earthquake on April 25, 2015, caused Everest to move 3 centimeters to the southwest.
The Survey of India has announced that they will measure for the second time whether there has really been any change in the height of Everest due to the earthquake in Nepal.
Surveyor General Swarna Subba Rao told the media that a team will be sent to Mount Everest on the Nepal-China border within the next two months.
It should be noted that about 9,000 people were killed in the earthquake in Nepal, many homes and buildings were severely damaged in the earthquake on April 25, 2015.
