This Istiklal Mosque is located in Jakarta, Indonesia. Istiklal Mosque is the largest mosque in Southeast Asia and the 5th largest mosque in the world.
This mosque was built in 1978. The area of this mosque is 95,000 square meters. Capacity is 1,20,000 people. The central place of prayer i.e. the mosque has a huge dome built on 12 circular pillars. Apart from the big dome, this mosque has another small dome. There is a minaret whose height is 90 meters.
Islamic lectures, exhibitions, seminars and conferences are organized in this mosque with a four-level balcony. There is a system of Islamic education for women and children separately.
'Istiklal' is an Arabic word, which in Bengali means freedom. After Indonesia got its independence in 1949, there was an initiative to build a national mosque called 'Istiklal'. After fixing the design and other arrangements, the foundation of the mosque was given in 1961. But it takes a long time to complete the construction of the mosque. The construction of the mosque was completed in 1978. It took a total of 17 years from the foundation of this mosque to its completion. Beautifully crafted and beautifully crafted, this mosque is truly a sight to behold. So this mosque is considered as the 5th largest mosque in the world.
