The vice-principal cut the sleeves of more than half a hundred students, angry parents!

The Dhaka Times Desk ঢাকা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়ের ক্যাম্পাসে অবস্থিত ফুলার রোডের উদয়ন উচ্চ মাধ্যমিক বিদ্যালয়ের উপাধ্যক্ষ মাহবুবা নাসরিন কল্পনা শৃঙ্খলাভঙ্গের অভিযোগ এনে অর্ধশতাধিক ছাত্রীর স্কুল ড্রেসের জামার ফুলহাতার অর্ধেকটা কেটে দিয়েছেন। এমনকি পরবর্তীতে জামা কোমর পর্যন্ত কেটে দিব – এই ধরণেরও হুমকি দিয়েছেন।

স্কুলটির প্রসপেক্টাসে বলা হয়েছে গ্রীষ্মকালীন সময়ে ছাত্রীদের হাফ হাতা জামা পরে আসতে হবে। কিন্তু, ছাত্রীরা ফুল হাতা জামা পরে আসতে পারবে কি না, কিংবা ফুল হাতা জামা পরে উপস্থিত হলে কোনো শাস্তির বিধান আছে কি না – এই ব্যাপারে প্রসপেক্টাসে কিছু বলা নাই। যাই হোক, গত ১৪ মার্চ একটি নোটিশে বলা হয়েছিল, সকল শিক্ষার্থীরা যেন নির্ধারিত ইউনিফর্ম পরে ক্লাসে উপস্থিত হয়। কিন্তু তারপরেও বেশ কিছু ছাত্রীরা ফুল হাতা জামা পরে ক্লাসে উপস্থিত হয়।

গতকাল বুধবার সকাল ১০ টার দিকে উদয়ন স্কুলের ভাইস-প্রিন্সিপাল মাহবুবা নাসরিন কল্পনা কয়েকজন শিক্ষককে সাথে নিয়ে নবম, দশম, একাদশ ও দ্বাদশ শ্রেণীর ক্লাসরুমে যান।  এসময় তিনি যেসকল ছাত্রীর জামার হাতা বড় ছিলো, তাদের সকলের জামার হাতা ক্লাসে উপস্থিত সবার সামনেই কেটে দেন। উপাধ্যক্ষ কল্পনার কাছে ছাত্রীরা কাকুতি-মিনতি করে বলেছিল, “ম্যাম, এটা আমাদের ধর্মীয় রীতি, তাই পর্দা করেছি।” অথচ তাদের এমন কথার প্রেক্ষিতে উপাধ্যক্ষ উত্তর দেন, “পর্দা নয়, স্কুলের নিয়ম আগে।” শুধু তাই নয়, তিনি আরও বলেন, “আজকে শুধু হাফ হাতা করে কেটে দিলাম। এরপর কেউ কোয়ার্টার হাতা কিংবা ফুল হাতা জামা পরে আসলে, বাহুমূল পর্যন্ত হাতা কেটে দিবো।”

Meanwhile, the principal of the school. Umm Salema Begum admitted the truth of the incident and said, "On my orders, the sleeves of the girls' clothes were cut off. He said, "Earlier I have forbidden them many times not to come to school wearing full sleeves." But they didn't agree. So the vice-principal cut the flower sleeves (in half) with scissors. He also said that according to the school rules, everyone should come to school wearing a dress. Outside of this will not be accepted. However, if someone wears a full-sleeved shirt and hijab because of the veil, it must be reported in writing.

This incident has caused intense anger among the affected students and parents. Students' parents protested on the campus because the sleeves of the school dress of the girls were cut off. The parent Abdul Aleem Mia said that the school authorities did this without giving any kind of notice or instructions. Such an arbitrary decision cannot be accepted. Students may wear hijab or full sleeves for religious reasons. Such clothes are not banned in Bangladesh.

Parents also said that many students were injured while cutting their sleeves. Many students panicked in this incident. Due to this incident they got scared and cried. Many are mentally broken.

Meanwhile, it has been found that Mahbooba Nasreen Kalpana is the wife of Labor and Employment Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju. Some members of the governing body of the school said that Kalpana is behaving like she is going to school because she is the wife of an influential minister. And when he protested his behavior, he showed various threats.

Since this incident, the parents have taken a position in the school premises demanding the punishment of the principal and vice-principal. According to them, we are demanding the resignation of the principal and vice-principal of the school. On the other hand, when we tried to contact Mahbooba Nasreen Kalpana in this regard since yesterday afternoon, her phone was found to be switched off.
