The Dhaka Times Desk India's Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh has warned that cow killers will be hanged. He gave such a warning in response to a question of journalists in Jagdalpur of the state last Saturday.
Raman Singh said that cow slaughter will not be accepted in the state. Anyone who does this will be hanged. Earlier in the day (Friday), an amendment to a law was passed in the Gujarat Assembly making cow-slaughter punishable by life imprisonment (14 years). New Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has also taken steps to shut down illegal slaughterhouses in the state. After these two states, Chief Minister Raman Singh announced strict punishment for cow slaughter in Chhattisgarh.
In response to the question whether the state government is bringing any strict law against cow slaughterers, Chief Minister Raman Singh countered by asking, 'What cow slaughter is happening anywhere in the state? Has a cow been killed in the last 15 years?'
After that, laughing a little, he said, 'Whoever kills a cow, I will hang him (jo gai ko marega, unko latka denge).'
It is to be noted that after coming to power in December 2003, this Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh issued a ban on cow slaughter. The following year the Cattle Preservation Act was passed in the state assembly. In that law, it was said that the accused of killing or smuggling cattle should be jailed for 7 years and fined 50,000 taka.
