The Dhaka Times Desk Religious thinker and speaker Zakir Nayak's citizenship application has been approved by Saudi Arabia. The founder of Peace TV, an Indian citizen, was charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
According to media reports, Zakir Naik has been granted citizenship by Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud to protect him from being arrested by the international police agency Interpol.
Earlier, the Indian government banned the Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) founded by Zakir Naik. It is also alleged that some of the militants who were killed at the Holy Artisan in Gulshan, Dhaka were inspired by Zakir Naik's speech. After the Gulshan attack, the Indian government brought Zakir Naik's activities under surveillance.
The police already had the idea that Zakir Naik was staying in Saudi Arabia to avoid arrest. In November last year, India's National Investigation Agency registered a case against Zakir Naik and his associates. He has been accused of spreading religious hatred and destroying harmony among different groups.
IRF was banned in UK and Canada due to Zakir Naik's speech. Zakir Naik is one of the 16 thinkers banned in Malaysia.
However, Zakir Naik has denied all the allegations leveled against him. Not only that, Zakir Naik also opposed the banning of IRF.
