A new island has been discovered in Bangladesh. However, this is not the case today. It happened a long time ago. However, a lot of excitement has been created about this island. This new island with an area of 7.84 square kilometers is located at a height of about 2 meters above the sea level. This island is located in the Bay of Bengal, 10 km south of Dublar Char in Mongla Upazila of Khulna.
Bangabandhu Island researcher professor Md. Shahidul Islam said, 'This island was first discovered in 1992. Two fishermen along with the fisherman Malek Farazi were the first to land on the island. Being a devoted devotee of Bangabandhu, he put up a signboard called 'Bangabandhu Island' at that time. After that there was no news about this island for a long time.'
Professor Shahidul Islam said, 'Recently, a decision was made to research the island after seeing a post on Facebook. We left for that island on February 11 with a group of 29 members including two colleagues. It took us 3 days to reach the island as it is very far from Mongla port. After researching the island for 16 days, we returned to Dhaka.
About the results of the research, this researcher also said, 'The scope of this island discovered in the last 25 years has expanded a lot. At present the island has an area of 7.84 km, which is two meters above sea level. The island has a total length of 9 km of sea beach. On the island we found no sign of driftwood. Compared to other sea beaches, the water of this beach is so clear that it is possible to swim easily without fear.
This researcher of Bangabandhu Island also said, 'The main attraction of this island is the red crab. It looks like a red beach from a distance. We also found huge forests on this beach. We researched there but did not find any reptiles. Apart from reptiles, we found about 60 to 70 species in total. However, due to the small scope of our research, it was not possible for us to conduct a thorough research in the entire forest. We did not find any sign of the tiger in all our searches, but we found some signs of deer.'
In a response given to the media, Professor Shahidul Islam also said, 'We will submit all the documents related to the island's research to the government. Because we think the beauty of this beach is not less than other ocean beaches. There is no human settlement for at least 20 kilometers around this island. That is why this island is very deserted. For this reason, international campaign of this island is also needed at the government level. Even the people of the country do not know that there is such a beautiful island in this country.'
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor AMS Arefin Siddique was the chief guest of the program on Friday. He said, 'It was unknown to me that there are so many beautiful islands in the country. I first came to know about this island during a meeting with researchers a few days ago. In order to increase the number of tourists in this island, there is a need for promotion campaigns at the government level. Only then will tourists come there.'
