The Dhaka Times Desk A Danish research team has discovered the northernmost island at the North Pole. They reach that island due to GPS error.
A group of researchers from the University of Copenhagen went to the region to study the topography of the North Pole. While working there, they reach an island due to GPS error. They thought that they had arrived at Udak Island. Till now that island was considered as the northernmost island of the North Pole.
Another Danish research team discovered the island in 1978. But in no time the explorers realize that their GPS is giving wrong readings. They also moved about 780 meters northwest of Udak Island. No island has been found there so far. Researchers realize that they have accidentally made a breakthrough discovery.
How is the new island formed?
The new island is 30 meters wide. The maximum height of the island from the water level is three meters. Underneath the ice is soil and rock. The island appears to be made of glacial till and rock. Researchers believe that this small island was not created long ago. But more research is needed, they said.
Geologists only recognize a piece of land as an island when the island is not submerged under water even at high tide. This island is supposed to have that feature.

Morten Rach, a researcher at the University of Copenhagen and head of the expedition team, told the media that, "We arrived at the island by mistake. This happened because of wrong GPS signal. But the good news is, we have discovered a new island. We are very happy.”
The research team was sponsored by a Swiss businessman. He told the media that everyone went there thinking it was Udak Island. It can be seen that a new island. Everyone is very happy with this.
Note that Russia, America, Canada, Denmark and Norway are fighting fiercely for the possession of the North Pole. All want to occupy most of the territory in the region. Experts believe that political pressure will start with this new territory. However, the new island is yet to be named. According to the researchers who discovered this new island, the island can be named North Island.
