British scientists claim to have identified 5 genes responsible for heart disease. Due to the discovery of this gene, it will now be possible to detect heart disease much earlier. Also, the doctors think that it will be possible to treat it.
According to the news of BBC Bengal, about 6500 people in Britain are suffering from pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH). People who suffer from this disease, the arteries or blood vessels that carry blood from the heart to the lungs, become thick and hard. Due to which there is a risk of heart failure. 50% of these patients usually die within 5 years.
It can be seen that this disease is more common in people who have heart or lung problems. But anyone can get this disease without any obvious reason.
The only treatment for patients with this type of disease is heart and lung transplantation. In countries such as Britain, waiting years for a heart or lung transplant are due to a shortage of transplantable organs. Sometimes the transplanted heart or lungs can be rejected by the body.
Nick Morrell, one of the research team and professor at the British Heart Foundation, said that by characterizing these genes, they now understand how the disease occurs.
Professor Nick Morrell said, "That's why we now hope to find new ways to potentially treat this disease."
