Rangamati district

At least 98 people, including 4 army personnel, were killed in landslides due to heavy rains in Rangamati district town and various upazilas.

Rangamati district administration sources said that 98 deaths have been reported in different parts of the district so far. Among them are 4 army personnel. It is said that 53 people died in the district headquarters, 23 in Kaukhali, 18 in Kaptai and 2 in Bilaichhari and 2 in Jurachhari. At least five hundred houses have been destroyed due to landslides in different upazilas of the district.

Bandarban District

6 people were killed in landslides in Balaghata, Lemuzhidipara and Agapara areas of Bandarban district city. 5 others were injured.

Locals said that the mountain collapsed in Balaghata police camp area of Bandarban district town around 2:30 am. Residents were sleeping during this incident. Reba Tripura died when a mountain collapsed and fell on the house.

That night, 5 people were killed and 4 injured in similar landslides in Lemuzhidipara and Agapara of the city. Locals rescued the injured and admitted them to Bandarban Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, the president, prime minister, opposition leaders and leaders of various political parties have expressed their deep grief over the loss of army personnel and soldiers in this terrible landslide.
