According to media reports, toxic substances have been found in eggs from the EU, Sweden, Italy, Austria, Ireland, Luxembourg, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Denmark, Switzerland and Hong Kong.
It is known that many poultry farms in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France have already been closed. Billions of eggs contaminated with fipronil have been removed from supermarkets in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands.
However, Daniel Rosario, the head of the Commission's Food Safety Department, urged not to blame each other on the issue.
Belgian officials have admitted that eggs sent from farms in the Netherlands may contain toxins, including pesticides.
Catherine Stragier, the spokesperson of the Belgian Food Safety Authority, said that the presence of the harmful chemical fipronil in the eggs was known from last June. A quick investigation was launched without revealing the matter at the time. Fipronil, a toxic chemical, can damage the kidneys, liver and thyroid gland if it enters the human body.
It should be noted that various discussions have been going on for the last one week about this toxic substance in eggs. Which has spread to several countries of the world. It is reported that at least 17 states have found this harmful substance in eggs.
