The UN Security Council called for an end to violence against the Rohingyas

The Dhaka Times Desk The United Nations Security Council has condemned the ongoing violence and violence against the Rohingya population in Myanmar's Rakhine state and called for an end to violence against the Rohingya.

The United Nations has also called on the country's government to take swift action to stop the violence. It also called on the country to allow humanitarian aid workers access to Rakhine.

This concern and call was made in a statement at the Security Council meeting on the ongoing violent situation in Myanmar's Rakhine State on Wednesday afternoon New York time.

The UN Security Council held a meeting last Wednesday on the issue of Rohingya crisis. United Kingdom Ambassador to the United Nations, Matthew Rycroft, said in a statement that the council expressed deep concern over the excessive use of force in Myanmar's Rakhine state and called for an immediate end to it. He also commented that disaster has befallen Rakhine state and Rohingyas.

In addition to the cessation of violence, the UN Security Council meeting called for the normalization of the situation in Rakhine, the establishment of law and order, the protection of citizens, the normalization of social and financial activities and the resolution of the refugee problem.

The UN Security Council statement thanked Bangladesh for providing assistance to the refugees. The United Nations and other organizations have also been called upon to provide assistance to Bangladesh in this regard.

Members of the UN Security Council agreed on a long-term solution to the Rakhine situation and called for the implementation of the Kofi Annan Commission report.

Matthew Rycroft said many members of the council called for an open discussion on the Rohingya issue. They also called for presidential statements on the issue, which will remain on the official record.

According to a report in the international media, this statement was given based on the consensus of all the members of the Security Council after 9 long years on the Myanmar issue.

The United Nations has expressed concern that the number of Rohingya refugees entering Bangladesh from Myanmar is extremely inadequate compared to the number of refugees. An official of the United Nations refugee agency UNHCR said that the level of urgent aid should be greatly increased.
