Last Sunday, a CT scan of the 8 feet long Burmese python was completed at a private clinic in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India. Through this, for the first time in India, an injured snake was given hospital treatment.
According to the Indian media NDTV, the injured snake was rescued from Anandpur in Keonjhar district. The place is about 130 km from Bhubaneswar. The forest department rescued the python and handed it over to a voluntary organization called 'Snake Helpline'. 60 volunteers of this organization are responsible for maintaining the health of snakes in Odisha. They also help in rescuing snakes.
Mihir Patnaik, the forest range officer of Anandpur, brought the critically injured python to Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology after it was rescued last Friday, NDTV said. First, the snake is x-rayed. But since the X-ray report did not detect the real problem, the CT scan was decided to find out the cause of the snake's illness.
However, as it is difficult to get a CT scan of a python in a government hospital, the snake was taken to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar for a CT scan. During the CT scan, there was fear that if the snake moves its head inside the machine, there may be a problem! In that case it will not be possible to get the correct report. So the snake's head was taped.
Snake Helpline spokesperson Subhendu Mallick said reports showed that the python had suffered severe injuries at several places. Even the head of this python has been severely injured.
NDTV also said that the CT scan report of the python has been sent to several famous doctors in the world. So that it is possible to give treatment according to their advice.
