Heather Nauert, spokesperson of the US Department of State, said in the statement on Monday, "Myanmar was moving towards a democratic society after breaking the fence of almost half a century of dictatorship. The United States has been supporting Myanmar's transition. But the country's elected civilian government is essential for the country's peace, stability and prosperity. It is also important for the Myanmar-US partnership.'
The United States has also expressed concern about the ongoing violence in Myanmar's Rakhine State and the torture and persecution of the Rohingya. "It is also imperative that everyone responsible for any type of atrocity be held accountable," the statement said.
US forces have already scaled back operations with Myanmar's military, the statement said. Along with this, a ban has already been imposed on the sale of all types of military equipment. The United States has taken these steps to end violence and ensure accountability in Rakhine State.
The United States has said that the travel visas of Myanmar's senior leaders and members of the military have been suspended under the Z Act since August 25. Moreover, how to ensure accountability under the Global Magnetics Act from the United States law is also being looked into. At the same time, the United States is also looking at whether accountability can be ensured in this matter by discussing with development partners and various alliances.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the country said that the United States is also working with various international organizations, and they have also been demanding access to the UN investigation team and the media in the relevant areas of Rakhine State.
The statement also said that the United States will always support Myanmar's journey to democracy. Along with this, the United States will also support the resolution of the ongoing crisis in Rakhine State. The Myanmar government and army must take immediate steps to ensure peace and security. Humanitarian assistance must be ensured for the residents of those states. Moreover, those forced to flee the country should be repatriated with proper facilities in Rakhine State. Rohingyas should be granted Myanmar citizenship to ensure their rights.
The statement also mentioned that the United States is ready to provide all kinds of assistance to Myanmar if these are confirmed.
