The Dhaka Times Desk A fire at a chicken processing plant in northeastern China has killed 119 people. At least 54 people were injured. The number of dead and injured may rise.
The media reported that the factory used to process chicken meat. There were complaints that some exits of the factory were blocked.
State news agency Xinhua quoted the news media as saying that the fire started on Monday morning. At this time several explosions were heard. After the fire was extinguished in the slaughterhouse of the factory, the body recovery began. However, nothing is definitely known about the cause of the fire. But the sources of the local fire brigade say that it is believed that this fire may have happened due to the spread of ammonia gas inside the factory. Some sources are also talking about electrical accidents. Firefighters said the factory's main gate was closed early in the morning. However, after the fire, hundreds of workers managed to get out in different ways. The rescue workers said that it took about six hours to put out the fire as the construction structure of the factory building is very complicated and the way out is narrow.
It is not yet known how many people were working inside at the time of the fire. However, a survivor said that as many as 300 people were working. A worker told state television that panic spread inside the factory after the fire broke out. The workers then started running to find a way out.
