The picture you are looking at is the famous and historic mosque 'Great Mosque of Samarra' in Iraq. The design of this mosque is a bit exceptional. The minaret of the mosque is also exceptional.
Samarra is a city in the north of Iraq. The location of this mosque Samarra is on the banks of the Tigris River, 125 kilometers from Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. This is once the world's largest mosque 'Great Mosque of Samara'.
This mosque was planned to be built in 848. However, the construction of this mosque was completed in 851. The specialty of this mosque is the minaret of this mosque which looks like a snail. whose name is 'Malawiya'. The spiral path is 52 meters high and this minaret is 33 meters wide.
It is known that this 'Great Mosque of Samarra' was built by the Abbasid Caliph Al-Mutawakkil (847-861 AD) in the ninth century.
Since 2002, after the US troops started invading Iraq, Samarao came under their control. They used to stay in the minaret of this mosque to observe the surrounding area. Later, in a bomb attack, on 1 April 2005, the Malawi minaret of the 'Great Mosque of Samara' mosque was damaged.
